The Congressman is a weekly guest on multiple radio shows to discuss news of the day and provide an update on his work in Congress. He also sends out frequent email newsletters to 200,000+ constituents providing a recap of the week, bills he voted on in the House, and visits he made in the district. The office has held 14 in-person town halls (pre-COVID), public forums, such as an Identity Theft and Fraud Prevention Workshop at Gateway Technical College and a Children's Mental Health Forum at a local Racine high school, and more than 20 telephone town halls that each have reached thousands of constituents. The office announces all forums, town halls, and telephone town halls to the press, through social media, hard mail, and email to ensure constituents are made aware of the events. As Wisconsin opened up after the pandemic, Rep. Steil resumed in person town halls, and held an informational forum focusing on illicit fentanyl in the community. At the end of every year, Rep. Steil sends information to most households in his district on his legislative work, constituent services, services provided by his Washington, D.C. office, and a summary of how taxpayer dollars are being spent at the federal level. This practice gives constituents the ability to reach out to the office, receive assistance, and learn about the services they provide. Within the office, Rep. Steil holds weekly meetings with communications aides, policy aides, and schedulers to ensure there are direct, open lines of communications among all staff.

Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS)

davids headshotThe office of Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS) prioritizes transparency and accountability in almost all of their activities. Externally, the office hosts live conversations and telephone town halls with Rep. Davids and guests, sends weekly newsletters with surveys to provide feedback to over 90,000 constituents, and releases “Year in Review” data, which includes the number of constituent messages responded to, the number of viewers reached on live conversations and telephone town halls, the number of constituent cases opened, and the number of bills cosponsored with the bipartisan percentage. Since being sworn into office, Rep. Davids has done 15 telephone town halls reaching over 62,000 individuals. In 2021 she participated in 19 Facebook Live broadcasts on topics such as Medicare enrollment, the child tax care credit, Black History Month, and mental health awareness. The office regularly has the Congresswoman open and respond to constituent letters on video, which are then posted to the office’s social media pages and sent in newsletters. In every piece of correspondence, written responses, newsletters, mailers, and more, the office asks constituents to rate them on how well they addressed their concern. They also include a text box in case constituents have additional information they would like to share with the office. They also have a rigorous internship program, where interns compose co-sponsor memos, compile press clips, caption videos, answer phones, and attend briefings. The office also has a Staff Lunch Series where interns spend every Wednesday lunch with two staff members for an informal conversation. Rep. Davids meets with each intern class twice per cohort and makes it a priority to be available to them due to her belief that interns should be treated like full-time staff members.
